CHENNAI INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL-CIFF
No comments

ICAF started organizing CHENNAI INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (CIFF) - from the year 2003. All the earlier editions have seen a gradual growth in terms of attendance as well as popularity. With the film fraternity actively joining hands with ICAF now, the 9th edition of CIFF promises to be bigger and better. CIFF is dedicated to presenting the best of international and Indian Panorama films to the cinema loving city of Chennai, just as it showcases the best of Tamil films to the world.

9th CIFF proposes to have about 140 fims from more than 45 countries and the country focus will be on Turkey, Hungary and Poland. The expected retrospectives are the films by renowned film makers Hou Hsao-Hsien from Taiwan and Aki Karasmaki from Finland. Films presented at the Cannes, Berlin, Venice & Toronto Film Festivals 2011 are likely to be presented during 9th CIFF.

The Competition Section for Tamil Films, that was instituted in 7th CIFF to encourage Tamil Filmmakers will continue to feature with its strong presence. The various sections under which the films will be categorised for screening are Competition for Tamil Films, World Cinema, Indian Panorama, Country Focus, Retrospective and Tribute.

The festival’s presence will be felt on the web, social network sites, TV and FM radio apart from the print medium. The curtain-raiser press meets, opening and closing cermonies, gala cultural shows, Exclusive ‘Red Carpet’ evening screenings for an invited audience etc., all studded with film personalities from international, national and popular regional cinema will add substantially to the festival's feel.

9th CIFF will be inaugurated on 14 Dec 2011 Wednesday and the closing ceremony wii be on 22 Dec 2011 Thursday. Nine full days of films from all over the world. Rejoicing festivity for all lovers of good cinema.

The CIFF Trophy was designed in a contest among upcoming artists in the prestigious Govt. College of Fine Arts- Chennai, which has been a major influence in chiselling the Madras Art Movement. From among the fifty four entries submitted, a selection panel of artists, ICAF & CIFF advisory committee members selected the winning design sculpted by J Mohamed Nasar, a 3rd year student. The award sponsored by Real Image Technologies was then cast in Bronze from its clay model. CIFF connects arts & artists of Chennai as it evolves.
